Company description:: LAS VEGAS, PHOTO MARKETING ASSOCIATION (PMA) Booth # N81, Feb. 12, 2004 – DXG USA, a business unit of Taiwan-based DXG Technology Corp. and one of the world’s largest digital camera designers and manufacturers, today announced at PMA 2004 Brooke Distributing and BDI Laguna will become the first distributors to carry its entry-level line of digital cameras. Signing the two distributors is a move in DXG USA’s two-tier sales channel strategy to increase DXG's brand presence and answer the needs of smaller retail outlets wanting to increase their share of high-growth digital camera sales.
Established in 1949, Miami-based Brooke Distributing (www.brooke.com) has two distribution centers located in Miami and Houston. BDI Laguna (www.bdilaguna.com) maintains its operations out of New York. Both distributors have national reach, serving small and medium-size independent retailers and chains across the U.S. The addition of Brooke Distributing and BDI Laguna complements DXG USA’s major retail accounts, including Fry’s Electronics and MicroCenter, which were announced in January 2004.
“We choose to distribute DXG USA’s products as we are finding there is a growing market need among our own retailer customers servicing shoppers who occasionally take pictures and are considering attractive and affordable digital cameras,” said David Rutter, Brooke Distributing President. “DXG USA’s reputation as a quality digital camera designer and manufacturer has provided us with a product line that we expect will do very well.”
Effective immediately, both distributors are now shipping to retailers the DXG-228, DXG-308 and DXG-321. The cameras use stylish designs with 2 or 3 megapixel CMOS sensors, 1.5-inch TFT displays, 4x digital zoom, 16 megabyte built-in memory, SD and MMC memory card expansion, AVI video, USB interface and replaceable alkaline batteries. In addition, both distributors are shipping the DXG-202V─ a compact 2 megapixel CMOS digital video camera.
All DXG USA cameras come with a seven language menu system and are bundled with an ArcSoft® software suite, camera pouch, alkaline batteries, USB and TV output cables, and user’s manual.
“Digital camera adoption is rapidly growing,” said Seth Grossman, vice president sales for BDI Laguna. “The attractiveness and affordability of DXG USA’s products based on the purchasing habits and demands of mainstream consumers will provide our own customers an opportunity to cash in on this high-growth market opportunity.”
DXG USA’s Market Opportunity
According to the Consumer Electronics Association, 28 percent of U.S. households already own a digital camera. This number is expected to grow significantly over the next several years as prices continue to drop and as consumers look to replace film cameras. DXG expects its business strategy of fashionable design and price to appeal to both retailers and consumers as it looks to make a significant impact in the sub $300 market with compact, highly portable, full-featured cameras.
Consumer MSRP Pricing
The DXG-228 ($99), DXG-308 ($99), DXG-321 ($119), and DXG-202V ($119) are now available for purchase through Fry’s Electronics, Fry’s Outpost.com and MicroCenter.
